Answers to the most common questions about JetDieline

Here you will find the key answers about templates, design, checks, export and the app's limits. Each answer links to the relevant feature page.

Can I try JetDieline before buying it?

Yes. There is a free trial for 7 days, available in all countries. Which purchase options apply afterwards has not been announced yet.

In which languages is the app available?

The app's interface and help have been checked in German, English and Turkish. Further languages are in preparation. This website is available in more languages than the app.

Templates and dimensions

Can I set a template to any dimensions?

Each template has a sensible dimension range. If an entry makes the construction unusable, the check shows a finding with an explanation. Confirm the actual manufacturability with your printer.

Are the templates named after a standard?

The constructions are our own templates. For corrugated board, some follow common FEFCO styles and are similar to them. The binding reference is your printer's dimension sheet.

Designer

Do I have to create my design in JetDieline?

No. You can design the artwork in the app, or export the dieline and carry on in Illustrator, Affinity or Inkscape.

Are the colours on screen accurate?

No. The on-screen display is not colour-accurate. For reliable colours you need a proof or a press proof from your printer.

Checks

Does a passed check mean print approval?

No. The check supports sign-off but does not replace it. Binding approval comes from your printer, ideally after a built sample.

How does the app know the limits?

The limits come from the chosen material profile, for example for folding carton board or corrugated board. You can adjust them to your printer's specifications.

3D and presentation

Does the 3D view show real material behaviour?

No. The model shows geometry and fold sequence. Springback, crease behaviour and stability should be tested on a built sample.

Can I use the renderings as product photos?

For concepts, pitches and shop previews, yes. The display is not colour-accurate and does not replace a photo of the produced pack.

Export and handover

Which line types does the dieline contain?

Cut, crease and perforation lines are held separately and clearly named. That lets the printer assign them to their tooling.

Does the app send files to the printer itself?

No. The app does not access the network. It creates the package and an email draft, and you send both yourself.

Series and variants

Does the artwork adjust to every size?

The construction adjusts automatically. However, text and images can sit differently at other proportions, so check the artwork for each variant.

Who benefits from a series?

Shops with several shipping sizes, product lines offered in several fill quantities, and printers who offer recurring size ranges.

Imposition and costs

What does “up” mean?

An up is a single blank on the print sheet. The more ups fit on one sheet, the less material you need per pack.

Can I give the sheet layout to my printer?

Yes, as a suggestion. The final layout is set by the printer, because it knows the press, tooling and material format.

Reference import

Can I change the dimensions of the imported dieline?

An imported reference is fixed geometry and not parametric. For other dimensions, ask your printer for a new dieline or use a template from the catalogue.

What happens if the line types are not recognised?

Then you assign the lines yourself. The app shows every unassigned line so that nothing is overlooked.

Codes

Does the app assign product numbers?

No. You obtain the numbers from your GS1 organisation. The app creates the code from them and calculates the check digit.

Is a generated code guaranteed to scan?

The app checks size and quiet zone. Print process, material and colour all affect readability, so test the code on the press proof with a scanner.

The most important facts about the app

Local and account-free

The app works entirely on your Mac. It needs no account, uploads no drafts to a cloud and does not access the network.

macOS 15 or later

JetDieline is a native Mac app and uses Apple frameworks only. Light and dark mode follow your system settings.

Preview in the Finder

Project files show a preview in the Finder via Quick Look. You can recognise the draft without opening the app.

Shortcuts

Common steps can be started via the Shortcuts app and Spotlight.

What you should know

JetDieline supports you with construction, design and checks. It does not replace approval by your printer or a built sample. On-screen and 3D displays are not colour-accurate.
