Flat pouch (3-side seal)

This template calculates the print mask for a flat pouch with a three-side seal. Front and back are on a shared print sheet with a bottom fold. Side and top seals are seal zones; zipper, tear notch and hanging hole are optional additions. The drawing is not an approved film die-cutting contour.

How the shape is constructed

Print sheet height is twice the pouch height. The bottom fold connects front and back without an additional bottom gusset. The side seals run through both layers; the top seal closes the opening after filling. The zipper sits below the top seal; the tear notch is in the area above it. The hanging hole is in the top seal.

How it is assembled

Print the film, fold at the bottom fold and seal the side seams. After filling, seal the top seam; the pouch machine punches the tear notch and hanging hole.

Material and grain direction

Test fit, folding and closure on a sample made from the intended material. Confirm material thickness, grain direction and production steps with your printer.

Compare labels, cup carriers and bottle packaging. Circumference and openings must fit the container. Print mockups of beverage cartons do not demonstrate liquid-tightness.

What to consider for this construction

Side seal

Width of the seal on the left and right; it runs through all layers and stays clear of important print content.

Top seal

Height of the top seal, sealed after filling; with a hanging hole, at least the hole height plus twice 3 mm.

Zipper

Resealable press-to-close closure; the zipper band is a seal zone.

Zipper distance

Distance from the zipper centre to the top edge; the zipper sits below the top seal and above the bottom fold. Active when the zipper is enabled.

Tear notch

Notch in both side seals for tearing open above the zipper.

Frequently asked questions

How does this template differ from the flat paper bag?

pouch.flat is a film print mask with side seal zones and a top seal. bag.flat instead describes a paper blank with glued side flaps and an optional closure flap. Both have a bottom fold, but their seam areas serve different purposes. Choose the construction according to the intended manufacturing process; the files are not interchangeable production templates.

Can I add a zipper?

Yes. The starting value is off; pouchZipper activates the press-to-close zipper's seal band. Its distance is set separately and checked against the top seal and bottom area. The tear notch must remain above the zipper. A permitted position does not yet confirm a suitable closure type; clarify its selection and sealing with the converter.

How much space does a hanging hole need?

The top seal must accommodate at least the hole height plus twice a 3 mm margin. The model also checks the hole width between the side seals. No hole is enabled in the starting example. If you choose a hole shape, you must check the seal and, where applicable, notch or zipper position together. Confirm the allowance with the manufacturer.
