How the shape is constructed

Corrugated box with snap-lock bottom, whose outer top flaps fully overlap and are glued; both flaps have a central handle cut-out for the hand – for carrying without an additional handle.

How it is assembled

Glue the glue flap, erect the box and close the snap-lock bottom (side flaps, flap with tongue, flap with nose under the tongue). After filling, fold in the upper inner flaps, lay down the back's outer flap and then the front's over it so that the handle cut-outs align, and glue across their surfaces.

Material and grain direction

Flute direction parallel to the height: stable when stacked (check with the test print shop).

Test fit, folding and closure on a sample made from the intended material. Confirm material thickness, grain direction and production steps with your printer.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angle at the ends of the glue flap; makes folding and erection easier.

Flap gap

Gap between adjacent flaps or walls; at least about the material thickness.

Bottom flap overlap

Overlap of flaps 3 and 4 outside the closure.

Locking tab length

Length of the tab on flap 4 that engages under the tongue of flap 3.

Frequently asked questions

Is the handle an attached part?

No. Both upper outer flaps have an oblong slot cut-out. After closing, the cut-outs align and form the hand opening. The lid flaps are glued across their surfaces. A plastic handle or additional carrying strap is not part of this model and cannot be promised from it.

What load can the box carry?

The catalogue and starting profile do not state an approved load capacity. Handle bridges, corrugated board, adhesive bond and snap-lock bottom jointly determine load capacity. The starting run checks geometry and manufacturability. Carry out load tests with the actual contents and have the production partner confirm the construction before stating a load capacity.

Why is a longer handle not always possible?

The handle must sit between the inner flaps without removing the remaining bridges. gripLength.geometric.betweenInnerFlaps accounts for this area. The table range from 60 to 200 mm is therefore only the general range. For a short box, even a value within it may be invalid because of the actual geometry.
