Overlap slotted container

An adjustable strip connects the outer flaps at the top and bottom. The template calculates flap lengths, material layers and blank from the box dimensions and desired overlap.

How the shape is constructed

The inner flaps fold inwards; rear and front flaps then lie on top of each other in the overlap strip. outerFlapOverlap sets its width, 50 mm in the starting example. The flaps must not extend beyond the opposite wall's crease. The tube joint is glued or stapled.

How it is assembled

Glue or staple the glue flap to the opposite wall. Erect for filling, fold in the inner bottom flaps, place the rear outer flap over them first, then the front flap, and glue, staple or tape along the overlap strip; repeat at the top.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angle at the ends of the glue flap; makes folding and erection easier.

Flap gap

Gap between adjacent flaps or walls; at least about the material thickness.

Outer flap overlap

Width of the strip where the two outer flaps overlap; no larger than allows the flaps to end before the opposite wall's crease (full overlap).

Frequently asked questions

What does outerFlapOverlap measure?

The parameter measures the width of the strip where the two outer flaps overlap. It applies at the top and bottom; the starting example uses 50 mm. It describes neither the glue flap at the side seam nor a safety margin for artwork. Check the closure area separately from the tube joint.

Why aren't 600 mm permitted for every box?

600 mm is the general parameter upper limit. The constraint also calculates the geometric limit from the narrow side of the opening and the material-dependent flap shortening. A narrow box permits less overlap. Values within the table can therefore still trigger a finding and need adjustment.

Is this the same construction as full overlap?

Both constructions place outer flaps on top of each other. Here, outerFlapOverlap sets the overlap strip. The full overlap slotted container covers the entire opening with each outer flap and has no such parameter. Choose the ID to suit the required closure and check coverage on the real box.
