Folding cartons / JETDIELINE

Folding carton with crash-lock bottom

The pre-glued crash-lock bottom closes when the sleeve is erected. Dust flaps and a tuck flap close the top of the folding carton; gluing the bottom is part of the production workflow.

How the shape is constructed

Two bottom wings have a diagonal crease and a glue field. Two side wings complete the bottom. The sleeve is pre-glued at the factory and laid flat; the wings engage when it is erected.

How it is assembled

At the factory: fold back the bottom wings along the diagonal creases, apply adhesive to the glue fields, lay the sleeve flat and glue the glue flap. At the customer's site: erect the sleeve – the bottom closes by itself. After filling, fold in the dust flaps and insert the tuck flap.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angle at the ends of the glue flap; makes folding and erection easier.

Tuck depth

How far the tuck flap reaches into the box; at most about half the width (the height for a mailer).

Tuck flap radius

Corner radius of the tuck flap; limited by half the flap width or tuck depth.

Tuck flap shoulder

Side inset of the tuck flap relative to the lid, allowing easy insertion.

Frequently asked questions

What is automatic about a crash-lock bottom?

The prepared bottom closes when the flat sleeve is erected. For this to work, the bottom wings must have been folded and glued at the factory beforehand. The structure does not eliminate this preparation step. Check the complete workflow from pre-gluing to filling with the selected board.

Can I use the bottom without pre-gluing?

The assembly instructions assume glue fields and pre-gluing at the factory. Without this preparation, the intended automatic workflow does not occur. If you need a bottom without gluing, the snap-lock bottom is a different structure in the catalogue. Its flaps and folding sequence must be checked separately.

Which board is used in the example?

The documented starting example uses folding boxboard 400 g/m². Grammage alone determines neither thickness nor creasing behaviour. The profile is not calibrated. Agree on material, creasing and gluing with the print shop and check the bottom on a sample made from the target material.
