Folding cartons / JETDIELINE

Folding carton with crash-lock bottom

The pre-glued crash-lock bottom closes as the body is erected. At the top, dust flaps and a tuck flap close the folding carton; gluing the bottom is part of the production workflow.

How the shape is constructed

Two bottom flaps have a diagonal crease and a glue area. Two side flaps complete the bottom. The body is pre-glued at the factory and laid flat; the flaps engage as it is erected.

How it is assembled

At the factory: fold back the bottom flaps along the diagonal creases, apply adhesive to the glue areas, lay the body flat and glue the glue flap. At the customer's premises: erect the body – the bottom closes by itself. After filling, fold in the dust flaps and insert the tuck flap.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angled ends of the glue flap; make folding and erection easier.

Tuck depth

How far the tuck flap extends into the box; at most about half the width (the height for a mailer).

Tuck flap radius

Corner radius of the tuck flap; limited by half the flap width or tuck depth.

Tuck flap shoulder

Side inset of the tuck flap relative to the lid, to allow easy insertion.

Frequently asked questions

What is automatic about the crash-lock bottom?

The prepared bottom closes as the flat body is erected. For this, the bottom flaps must first have been folded and glued at the factory. The construction does not remove this preparation step. Check the complete workflow from pre-gluing to filling with the chosen board.

Can I use the bottom without pre-gluing?

The assembly instructions assume glue areas and factory pre-gluing. Without this preparation, the intended automatic action does not occur. If you want a bottom without gluing, the snap-lock bottom is a different construction in the catalogue. You must check its flaps and folding sequence separately.

Which board is the example based on?

The documented starting example uses folding carton board 400 g/m². Grammage alone, however, determines neither thickness nor creasing behaviour. The profile is not calibrated. Agree material, creasing and gluing with the printer and check the bottom on a sample made from the target material.
