Special carton shapes / JETDIELINE

Pillow box

The pillow box bows two wall panels between lens-shaped end flaps. Curved creases form the closure instead of straight lid creases. In version 1, the inputs mean width × thickness × length of the packaging. The dieline shown accounts for these proportions and the starting material; it does not define a rectangular box interior.

How the shape is constructed

Two walls and a glue flap form the flat sleeve. At each end of each wall, an end flap sits between a cut arc and a curved crease. Pressing in the flaps bows the walls. The arc height follows from the thickness; flapArcRatio controls the cut arc height relative to the crease arc height.

How it is assembled

Carefully pre-break the curved creases. Glue the glue flap to the inside of the free edge of the back and lay the packaging flat. To fill, gently push the walls apart, press the lower end flaps inwards one after the other, fill and close the upper end flaps in the same way.

Material and grain direction

Grain direction parallel to length (height): the walls bow about an axis along the grain and bend more easily; the side creases run lengthwise (check with the test printer).

Test fit, folding and closure on a sample made from the intended material. Confirm material thickness, grain direction and production steps with your printer.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angled ends of the glue flap; make folding and erection easier.

End flap arc height

End flap cut arc height as a proportion of the crease arc height (half the thickness); 100 % produces a symmetrical lens that covers the whole end.

Frequently asked questions

Which dimensions do I enter for the pillow box?

The technical length denotes the width from side edge to side edge, the technical width denotes the thickness at the centre, and the height denotes the length from tip to tip. The table explicitly states these meanings. The curved ends reduce usable space; check product fit in an erected package.

Why is a very flat size rejected?

The thickness must be at least 20 % of the entered width. Below this limit, the notches between the end flaps become too narrow. The thickness must also be no more than 50 % of the width, and the package length must be at least twice the thickness. Individual values within the table ranges therefore do not guarantee a valid combination.

Can I adjust the end flap radius?

Version 1 does not provide a separate flap radius. Instead, you control flapArcRatio, the cut arc height as a proportion of the crease arc height. The starting value of 100 % forms the symmetrical lens. Check changes particularly at the tips and when pressing in the flaps; the crease arc height still follows from the thickness.
