Corrugated components and inserts / JETDIELINE

Slotted container with crash-lock bottom

The corrugated box is pre-glued at the factory and supplied flat. The crash-lock bottom closes during erection; the top can have meeting flaps, fully overlapping flaps or an open edge.

How the shape is constructed

Bottom wings with diagonal creases and glue flaps form the crash-lock bottom. The factory folds the flaps back and glues them together with the side seam on the flattened tube. wingOverlap determines overlap, lockStyle the locking type. The user erects the tube until the bottom locks.

How it is assembled

At the factory: fold the bottom wing flaps back at the diagonals, apply adhesive, flatten the body and glue the glue flap and flaps. At the customer's site: erect the body until the bottom engages, fill, then close and tape the lid flaps.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Angled ends of the glue flap; make folding and erection easier.

Flap gap

Gap between adjacent flaps or walls; at least about the material thickness.

Lid

Top closure: flaps as on a regular slotted container, fully overlapping outer flaps or open.

Bottom flap overlap

Overlap of the folding flaps in the closed crash-lock bottom.

Frequently asked questions

What must be glued before erection?

At the factory, the bottom wing flaps are folded back at the diagonal creases and coated with adhesive. The tube is flattened; the side glue flap and bottom flaps are glued. Only this prepared state allows the intended erection sequence. The dieline alone does not produce a functional crash-lock bottom.

How does a crash-lock bottom differ from a snap-lock bottom?

A snap-lock bottom is closed during erection in a sequence of side flaps, tongue and locking tab. A crash-lock bottom is pre-glued and closes as the tube is erected. It therefore needs different bottom wings, diagonal creases and glue areas. Use the appropriate ID rather than replacing the closure of a finished contour.

Why is the flat tube checked?

The pre-glued box is supplied flat. Bottom wings must fit in this state without pressing against each other. wingOverlap.fitsFlatTube checks this additional geometry. A bottom can appear to fit when erected yet interfere when flattened. Check both states on the glued sample.
