Folding cartons / JETDIELINE

Sleeve

The sleeve surrounds a product with four walls and remains open at both ends. Length and width describe the cross section; height denotes sleeve length. The dieline shows version 1 with finger notches on the front. Material thickness, glue flap, and notch position remain part of the calculation rather than simple scaling.

How the shape is constructed

Four wall panels and a side glue flap form an open tube. The finger notch appears at both open edges of the selected panel. It can be on the front, back, or both. Height remains the same for inside, outside, and crease-to-crease dimensions because there is no end wall at the open ends.

How it is assembled

Prebreak the blank along all creases, glue the glue flap to the inside of the opposite wall, and flatten the sleeve. Erect for use and slide the contents in.

02

Material and grain direction

Grain direction parallel to the height (sleeve length): wall creases fold cleanly. For wide, thin walls, across the height to reduce bowing (check with the test print shop).

Test fit, folding and closure on a sample made from the intended material. Confirm material thickness, grain direction and production steps with your printer.

What to consider for this construction

Glue flap

Width of the glue flap used to glue the blank into a tube. The material requires a minimum width.

Glue flap angle

Bevel at the ends of the glue flap; facilitates folding and erection.

Finger notch

Semicircular notch at both open edges for gripping the contents.

Finger notch radius

Radius (= depth) of the finger notch; limited by sleeve length and panel width.

Panel with finger notch

Panel with finger notch: front, back, or both.

Frequently asked questions

What does a sleeve's height mean?

Height measures the distance between the two open edges. Length and width instead form the tube's cross section. Because no wall adjoins the top or bottom, switching between inside, outside, and crease-to-crease dimensions does not change height. The cross section is still converted using the selected material profile.

Can I turn off the finger notch?

Yes. fingerNotch controls the notches at both open edges. In the starting example, the option is enabled and centered on the front. Without notches, the open edges remain continuous. Check how you can grip or push out the contents then; this does not add a closure to the sleeve.

Why doesn't a large radius fit everywhere?

The notch, including its entries and minimum bridge, must fit between the wall creases. A position near the left or right edge reduces this space. Depth may also be at most 40 % of sleeve length. A radius within the table range can therefore still be invalid under the geometric conditions.
